When uncertainty changes a maintenance decision.
Carry diffusion-calibration dispersion into corrosion initiation, intervention timing, and life-cycle outcomes.
Portfolio revision: 17 October 2026
Research question
How does retaining calibration uncertainty change maintenance demand under the same exposure and intervention rules?
Method & evidence
A log-space diffusion calibration supplies residual dispersion from 36 real test observations. The study propagates that dispersion through 15,000 Fickian simulations per case and applies explicit maintenance and life-cycle scenarios.
Finding & status
Expected maintenance demand increases by approximately 20–40% relative to deterministic estimates in the paper’s reference scenarios.
Conditions of interpretation
Reference OPC dataset, specified exposure and planning horizons, and initiation-triggered maintenance policies. These scenario results require site-specific calibration for an asset application.
